Overview
Who We Are : Our Approach and Collective Impact
Hami DajuVai (HDV), also known as Nepali Brothers, is an intersectional, youth-led feminist organization working to advance gender equality and social justice through working with men and boys in building just society.
Established on April 15, 2019, HDV envisions a future where patriarchal norms are dismantled and replaced with inclusivity, intersectionality, and shared responsibility. We believe that addressing gender inequality requires collective action from all individuals, regardless of gender identity, social background, or status. We strive to create lasting social change by empowering young people and encouraging male allies to take an active role in gender justice. At HDV, we believe in the transformative power of education, advocacy, and engagement to challenge and redefine traditional gender norms. Our work is rooted in the belief that men and boys must play an essential role in dismantling harmful patriarchal structures that have historically marginalized women, and non-binary individuals. HDV works to shift perspectives and build a more inclusive society by fostering discussions around gender equality, promoting positive masculinity, engaging men and creating safe spaces for reflection and dialogue.
HDV is the first civil society organization in Nepal to mark International Men’s Day, raising awareness about how patriarchy harms men and the importance of their involvement in gender justice. HDV is also the first to organize a national-level conference on Feminism and Men, focusing on engaging men in gender equality. HDV is currently a secretariat member of MenEngage Alliance Nepal and Chair of the National Network on Ending Violence against Boys (VAB Network).
Approaches:
- Intersectional Feminist Leadership: Empower women and marginalized groups to lead and challenge patriarchal systems.
- Co-learning, Unlearning, Relearning: Focus on continuous education for men and boys on the harms of patriarchy.
- Inclusion and Diversity: Ensure that all initiatives are inclusive of diverse populations, especially focusing on the LGBTQA+ community and youth leadership.
- Redefining Masculinities: Engage men in redefining their roles, breaking away from traditional patriarchal notions of masculinity.
